This is a preliminary "fix" that may or may not work for you.
I don't have all the details yet, but I've been having idle issues on my RX-8 whenever the Mazsport cooling fans kick on. The idle drops, the engine gets real rough as it turns over, and sometimes the engine would stall. It only happened when the radiator fans were turned on (high speed due to the cooling mod) and I was at idle. My initial thought was that the batt or alternator was weak. But the alternator checked out fine, and after replacing the battery with a 750CCA / 910 CA redtop, the idle issues remained. I also found that sometimes just turning on my headlights would cause the idle issue to appear.
Anyway, someone mentioned to me that the interceptor-x might not be controlling the idle properly, and the engine might need more air to correct it.
This is what I did:
I bought a 3-way connector (3/8 by 1/4) from autozone.
I unplugged the "U" shaped hose over the intake manifold / throttle body area:
Next, I tapped into one of the hoses that pulls air from the intake (note the one-way-check-valves that prevent boost leak):
I capped off the left nipple from the "U" shaped connector that I removed earlier..
The right side nipple is then connected to the 3-way connector. I originally used a standard silicone vacuum hose, but it didn't push enough air to the engine to matter.
Later I installed a properly sized hose for the connector, and the rough idle and stalling issue became a lot better.
My car hasn't stalled in the last two weeks that I've had this setup, the engine can still get rough at times, but it's a lot less of a problem now.
Hopefully a real fix appears - but for now this is a viable solution for me. |

Well, almost 2 months later, and I have only stalled once, and that was over a month ago.
So I consider this a definitive fix for the stalling issue I was having. |
