Here's the story - I have a b&b midpipe, which gave me a cel after ~20 miles.
I wanted a cheap ODB-II scanner that was self powered (no laptop or pda needed) to read the code, and to reset it.
I found one on ebay, got it a few days ago, but it doesn't read anything. It also can't reset the CEL. Apparently the device needs to be more than just ODB-II to work with the RX-8. The seller will take the item back for a refund, but asked me about what protocol the RX-8 uses:
Quote: Works on vehicles with an OBD 2 Socket and the following protocols: SAE J1850 PWM, SAE J1850 VPW & ISO 9141-2 (Check under the hood or the chart below for vehicles OBD specifications.)
As it turns out, just having a ODB2 connector on your car doesn't mean a ODB2 scanner will work. The RX-8 uses a CANbus protocol, which is the new protocol that all cars will eventually be using.
Just thought I'd save you guys some time finding out the same thing that I did... |

| it can't. emu just piggybacks on some of the fuel/timing, it has no access to the odb2 |
