I recently read a good article that explains what knock is, which made me extremely uneasy driving my freshly turbocharged car. The Renesis engine has an already high compression ratio of 10:1 and so it is more prone to knock than your average factory turbocharged vehicle, with a compression ratio of 8:1 to 9:1.
Many of us are stuck with 91 octane fuel, known as crap gas. High compression and crap gas do not work together well and so I am starting this thread to discuss ways to improve octane. I've read of how some octane boosters are BS and can harm your engine in the long run. There must be some additives that can help without having to go to methanol/alcohol/water injection or buying gallons of C16 and mixing it.
Here are some things I found:

I don't think any octane booster will help you. They come in tiny bottles, how the heck can it increase the octane level enough to matter?
To combat knock:
1. Cool your engine as much as possible. Think about the mazsport cooling fan mod kit ($149), or the rb flash which can do the same thing ($300). Consider getting purple ice additive for your radiator. Or even a higher end radiator.
2. High quality gas. Don't go to el chepo gas stations and then wonder why your car runs poorly. I like Shell.
3. Tuning is the most important. Make sure your ignition timing isn't too advanced, and you have a margin of safety with your afrs....
4. Get gauges to monitor oil and coolant temps. If they're real high, you're going to be smart to not push things.
Also cooler temps will allow you to make more power and with less chance of detonation, so moving to alaska will rock |

i loled in rl xD
As for the topic, why use some octane boosters ? Can't U just tank a better gasoline like Shell V-Power ?
If U have it in the US, that is |

| run water/meth injection, cheap and will help far more than octane boosters. |

Is that safe witht the rotary engine ? Won't the housings get leaky or something ?
I have a stock (so far:P) RX-8 ,do i have to have a turbo for that ? Or can I use it w/o any FI system ? |

| DONT RUN WATER INJECTION. not a good idea. it actually raises the compression ratio. you'll make good power up untill ur motor pops. leave water injection to the diesel guys. |
